Birthday: April 14, 1923 Date of passing: April 30, 2010 About our Alumni:John was born April 14, 1923, in West Milton, PA, the son of John Adam and Rosetta (Meckley) Clouser. Following his father’s death, John, at the age of eleven, and his mother, Rosetta, moved to Mooseheart, IL where John attended and graduated from the Mooseheart High School, class of 1941. Following high school, John enlisted in the United States Army, serving with the 9th Infantry Division, during WWII. After WWII, John enrolled in the Illinois College of Jacksonville where he earned his Bachelor Degree. After college, John was recalled and served during the Korean War before returning to Illinois where he continued his education at Northwestern to receive his Masters Degree of Education. John continued by acquiring a student teaching position at Maine Township High School in Park Ridge, IL. Eventually, over the course of 24 years, John progressed to obtain a position, at Maine Township High, as a teacher, counselor, dean, assistant principal and finally principal before his retirement in 1979. Prior to his educational accomplishments, John met his future wife, the former Helen Wils of Rapid River, in 1955. John and Helen were united in marriage at the St. Charles Church in Rapid River on August 28, 1965. During their retirement years, John and Helen enjoyed many wonderful summers at their corner lake cabin and 21 winters at their home in Crystal River, FL. Additionally, the couple enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the U.S. and Canada and traveling throughout Europe to Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium and Holland. In 2000, John and Helen moved to Gladstone where they have remained since. John was an active member of the 9th Infantry Division Association where he served 3 terms as president over the years. He also was a past member of the Order of Moose and the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71. John was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone, serving 2 terms on the church council. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include, his loving wife of 45 years, Helen: Fond in laws: Thomas (Pat) Way; Fran, Lawrence and Gerald Wils Special Cousin: Maurice (Barbara) Clouser Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. |
