Check out the
Fake Alumni Sites below!!
Once again I must warn you of the various FAKE alumni sites on the web. All these sites charge $$ to "register" and or send e-mails. I was reminded when one of our fathful alumni mentioned to me that he was sorry we were now charging for access to the site. I explained that they were incorrectly accessing www.maineeastalumni.com not our site www.maineeastalumni.org
1.
www.maineeastalumni.com (Don't confuse us) This fake site is featured on the RIPOFF report: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/255/RipOff0255778.htm
The man behind it is Robert Brown, who is not a Maine East alumni. He runs alumni sites for over 300 high schools he is in no way connected to.
He purports to be the official Maine East Alumni site, going so far as advertising athletic shirts.....
How is this for the corporate headquarters in Maryland?.
Three more rip offs.
2.
Harris Publishing. Took the school district for a ride and then, against the wishes of the school district created their own Maine High web sites............They charge for joining......and they sell your information.
3.
Some sites like Classmates.com don't even bother to say they are part of Maine East, they just want your money.
4.
Classreports.com was actually caught stealing data from the Maine South site and only after threat of legal action stopped the practice, but they are still there, CHARGING you to enter.

Jon Hager,'59, a member of the Hagers vocal duo, was found dead Friday morning (Jan. 9) in his Nashville apartment. The 67-year-old entertainer apparently died in his sleep. He had reportedly been in poor health since his twin brother Jim,'59, died suddenly of a heart attack on May 1, 2008 in Nashville. Jon and Jim Hager appeared on Hee Haw's first episode in 1969 and remained on the popular TV series until 1988. Raised in the Chicago area, the brothers were adopted by a minister and his wife. As teenagers, the twins regularly performed on a Saturday morning music show for teens on WGN-TV/Chicago while attending Maine East High School. After serving in the Army, they moved to California, where they played in clubs and eventually landed a job performing at the Disneyland theme park. Buck Owens attended one of their Disneyland shows and signed them to a management, recording and booking contract. They spent several years opening shows for Owens, who also co-hosted Hee Haw. The Hagers signed to Capitol Records in 1969 and charted five country singles.

There has been some question as to the dates of death of various alumni listed to the right. The statement: "We are sorry to announce that during the last 6 months, the following Alumni have been reported deceased." Refers to the reporting of the death to this web site, NOT that they passed away within the last 6 months.
Also, the high percentage of members of the class of '60 is due to the intense data search on the part of the '60 reunion committee. They currently have approx 90% of the class of '60 for both East & West accounted for.

Dear MTHS Class of 1960 alum, January 16, 2008
This is the first mass email to classmates about plans for our 50th high school reunion on the weekend of May 21-23, 2010. You are receiving this notice because you are among the 329 “Found Classmates” from the combined Maine East and Maine West classes of more than 1300 whom we hope will attend the reunion. Being “Found” means that a current/valid email address is now listed as part of your profile at the MTHS Class of 1960 Fiftieth Reunion web site:
http://www.classreport.org/usa/il/mainetownship/mths/1960/
(Here’s an easier way to remember or explain to others: Go to www.classreport.org. Then click successively on: Illinois - Park Ridge or Des Plaines - Maine Township High School - 1960.)
Although the reunion is still two years away, planning has been underway for some time to prepare for an outstanding reunion weekend at the Marriott Hotel in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Even if you don’t know whether you’ll be able to join everyone in 2010, you can begin participation right now in a “virtual reunion” by visiting the web site to read about your friends and to update your own profile which shares your lifetime, family and career information with classmates.
In December, 2007, we signed a contract with the hotel and reserved meeting space and a block of guest rooms. The hotel rooms will be available at a group discount rate, but reservations cannot be made before May 20, 2009. A formal reunion invitation listing fees, schedules and instructions for booking your hotel room, will be emailed in the spring of 2009. Bookmark the reunion web site and check in occasionally to keep updated with plans as they unfold.
Meanwhile, there are several things you can do now to help us get ready for the reunion:
- Reply to this email. Do this immediately to confirm receipt and that your email address is correct. You may provide a different email address to be used if you prefer.
- Visit the reunion web site. This will give you information on reunion plans, a directory
of classmates along with statistics on who has been found, who is missing and who is no longer with us. Here you will also find a link to the hotel web site as well as the Maine East and Maine West alumni web sites. Take a few minutes to check the messages which are posted, see whose birthday is coming up and read through some of your classmate’s profiles. A different classmate profile and web site is automatically featured on the reunion home page each day. There is no cost to you for using the web site or updating your profile information.
- Update your profile. Click on “View or Edit My Profile” to add your email address, other contact information, and a bit of your personal history that other classmates will enjoy knowing. Even if you’ve already created a profile, you may wish to add to it. This is the information that will be used to create the handout at the reunion that will be shared with others.
- Privacy is your option. You have the option when updating your profile to keep your email address and city/state information private if you prefer. Your phone number is always kept private. If your profile information has come to us from other sources, your email/city/state has now been coded to be available for viewing by your classmates. You can override this choice as you update your profile if you prefer privacy. In this case, your class administrator alone will have access to the information and it will not be visible to others.
- Send a current photo. Once your profile has been updated we will be ready to add your senior yearbook photo. Alongside your yearbook photo we would then like to post a recent photo. You can email a JPG photo of yourself to petebenda@nc.rr.com. Optionally, mail your photo for scanning and uploading to: Pete Benda, 8412 Caldbeck Dr, Raleigh, NC 27615.
- Help spread the word. You can help us reach our 878 “Missing” classmates by contacting those with whom you have kept in touch. Tell them of our reunion plans and direct them to the reunion web site. Send their contact information to petebenda@nc.rr.com and we’ll make sure they are added to the reunion web site and receive all of the email communications.
- Send a contribution. Planning a reunion does not happen without a cost. There are expenses to be handled for web site maintenance and for scheduled payments to the hotel. If you want to help with a voluntary contribution, send a check (“MTHS Class of 1960 Reunion”) to: Eric Brookens, Reunion Treasurer, 5780 Regal View Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80919. If we end up with more than is needed for the reunion, a contribution will be made to the schools.
- Volunteer to be a detective. If you’d like to help track down missing classmates, let us know and we’ll get you a list of about 20 names to work on locating along with some suggestions on how to go about your sleuthing work.
- Offer your reunion suggestions. Post your ideas, recommendations and questions about our reunion on the Message Board of our web site.
- Start communicating with classmates. A big part of the fun of a reunion is the chance it provides to reconnect with old friends. You can begin doing that right now. Our reunion web site offers a way for you to reach out to classmates: Get information needed for direct contact or post messages for group communications. Begin your planning now by contacting and then scheduling time to meet with old friends during the reunion weekend.
Remember, we need email addresses. We don’t want to send any information via the U.S. mail. All information will be posted to our web site, and the formal invitation will be sent via email. Thanks for your interest in, and for your assistance with getting ready for, our 50th reunion!
Pete Benda, MTHS Class of 1960 Reunion Administrator
